August 22, 2021 -AlertNow Message

"Good Evening Students and parents. This is Josh Eanes, Principal at Bethany Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week. First, I want to officially welcome you to the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Our staff is excited to welcome our students back in person!

As you know, the first day of school is tomorrow, Monday, August 23rd. Doors will open for all students at 7:25am and they may report directly to their classroom. Students wishing to pick up breakfast in our cafeteria will do so before heading to their classroom to eat. Our tardy bell rings at 7:45am each morning. Students arriving late to school must be signed in by a parent at our front door.

As you arrive, parents are encouraged to use our morning car line for easy drop off but are allowed to park in the front lot and walk their student across our crosswalk to the front door. All parents and guests will remain outside of the building at drop-off. Kindergarten families only will be allowed to walk their student to the classroom during the first week of school. After the first week of school, kindergarten families will follow our normal morning drop-off procedure. Please be patient with school staff during the first few weeks of school as we will do our best to make morning arrival a speedy process.

As we dismiss school each afternoon, we ask all parents to use our drive through line. Walk-ups will not be allowed at afternoon dismissal. School staff will safely load students into cars. Please place a sign with your child’s name in the front windshield for easy dismissal. We appreciate your support with afternoon dismissal procedures.

Parents, breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge for all students this school year. Students wishing to purchase extra items at lunch may do so if funds are available on their lunch account. Lunch accounts can be created and updated by visiting

Kindergarten parents, please join us this Thursday, August 26th from 5pm-7pm for our Kindergarten Only Open House. Students and families will be able to view classroom rosters, meet your child’s teacher and visit classrooms. All kindergarten staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Parents, we will practice several school wide safety drills over the next two weeks at Bethany. Please know that our number one priority is the safety of our students and we will always make every effort to prepare for crisis situations. Although these situations are most often unpredictable, practicing with our students is very important.

Lastly, as we return to school under Covid safety protocols, it was decided by our Rockingham County School Board this past Friday that face masks are now required for all students, staff and visitors inside buildings and on school buses. Masks are not required outside. Bethany will follow this requirement. Students needing a face mask will be provided one as they enter the building or a bus. Parents, we also ask that you help our school stay safe and open for in-person learning by keeping students who are sick, showing symptoms of covid or have been exposed to covid at home until you have talked with our school for the safest next steps. Our goal is to work with families so that we can continue to operate, in-person, safely.

We hope you enjoy the last night of Summer Break and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning for the first day of school!"
